Croats hand letter to 10 Downing Street regarding Ante Gotovina
On 5 August, Brian Gallagher, Jasna Celic and Marko Krznaric on behalf of themselves and other concerned Croats in the UK handed a letter for Tony Blair to 10 Downing Street. August 5 was the 10th anniversary of Croatia’s Operation Storm, which successfully liberated large parts of Croatia and was instrumental in stopping Milosevic, Karadzic and Mladic - saving Bosnia-Herzegovina and bringing about the Dayton Peace Agreement.
The letter expressed concerns both over the indictment of General Gotovina as well as British policy towards Croatia; London has prevented Croatia from starting EU negotiations entry over the Gotovina issue.
The letter asked for London to press for a review of the charges against Gotovina, and asked that the UK drops its objections to Croatia joining the EU.
The letter concluding by inviting Tony Blair and his family to visit Croatia, saying that “Dubrovnik, Istria and Dalmatia are considered some of the most beautiful parts of Europe, indeed the world.”
