Lošinj 2008 - Language Courses and Language and Cookery Courses

This summer the Croatian Language School is offering an immersion course in the idyllic hamlet of Cunski [choo-n-skee] on the island of Lošinj [loh-sheen]. The school is set in an exceptionally picturesque village offering students the opportunity to plunge themselves into the Croatian language. Set against an authentic village backdrop, the School has views across towards the Western shores of the Kvarner Bay and is close to the important tourist resort town of Mali Lošinj with its attractive and lively historical port.

CLS offers students two course options. One option gives students pure language training and the other combined language and cookery training.

For those wishing to study the Croatian language only, the classes start in the morning from 9am and finish just after 6pm with a break at lunchtime until 4pm. With 5 hours a day of language tuition, students still have the early afternoons and evenings as spare time to spend exploring the island and experiencing the local customs and lifestyle. Each group of students has a dedicated teacher during each week to ensure the teacher has a clear understanding of each student’s needs and can monitor progress.

With the combined language and cookery course, you not only can improve your Croatian but you have the opportunity to discover and enjoy the world of Croatian cuisine, which makes this a unique course option. Gastronomy, being an integral part of the culture, is an extremely interesting and enjoyable way to develop the language as well as learn new culinary skills. For the combined language and cookery course, the language classes take place in the morning from 9am giving 3 hours of intensive language tuition followed by an afternoon break. The cookery session then takes place daily at 4pm and is taught in Croatian with focus on the key elements and ingredients typical of the cuisine as well as teaching the gastronomy from different regions – from Slavonian to Dalmatian recipes.

These immersion programmes coupled with limiting classes to a maximum of 10 students offer you the most effective method for language improvement within a short timescale. With intensive coaching and immersion in the culture, your language skills become much keener as you also sub-consciously absorb the language both inside and outside of the School.

Whether you are a student learning Croatian for personal interest, for business reasons or because of your Croatian heritage, these courses are designed to be challenging, interesting and most importantly ensure that you develop significantly your linguistic abilities and attain your personal goals.
